2019/2020 – Fundraising Activities
Bookfest
The Rotary Club of Salamanca has traditionally used a wide range of small fund raising activities to secure the funds it needs to support the various programs it deems important.
For many years members have been anxious to explore the possibility of a major fundraiser on which the Club could focus its resources rather than having several smaller events occurring throughout the year. With this in mind the Club, in 2019, embarked on a major fundraiser, a Bookfest, a second-hand book-sale, with an focus on quality. A weekend in early March 2019 saw a most successful event occur that realised $11 000+.
Seeking to capitalise on the success of 2019, the 2020 Bookfest will be held during the weekend of 14th and 15th of March at the Soho Arts Centre at 14 Weld Street, South Hobart.
Flower Show Catering
For many years the Club has provided morning and afternoon teas and lunches at the four annual Flower Shows which occur at the Hobart Town Hall and which have realised, annually, around $4 000. September sees the Daffodil show followed by the Orchid show. November is the time for the Rose and Iris Show while March hosts the Dahlia show. A continuing commitment to these catering events through 2019/2020 was deemed prudent by the Board while the ‘Bookfest’ proves itself as the anticipated ‘major’ fundraising event.
Sandy Bay Regatta Day Parking
On Australia Day, 26th January, each year, the Sandy Bay Regatta is held and the Club has had the responsibility , for several years, for managing the parking of cars. This event is a ‘good earner’ returning in excess of $1 100 to the Club’s coffers.
Five Cent Collection
In light of the decrease in use of coins, in particular 5 cent pieces, the Club, several years ago, tried to capitalise on the forecast demise of the smallest coin by placing collection boxes in various retail and business outlets throughout the City. The Board has decided to continue this project in 2019/2020 with an projected income of $1 000.
Bunning’s Bar be ques
The local Bunning’s hardware shop at Kingston has very generously provided the Club with some days during the year on which we can ‘earn’ some further income. During 2019/2020 we are hopeful that this activity will nett the Club around $2 000.
Catering for a school group at the Lea Camp
In April 2020, the Club will be providing a day’s meals for a group of school students at the Lea Camp. Many local Rotary Club’s are involved in this catering exercise and our involvement should help us realise around $1200.
Christmas Parcel Wrapping
Each year, the Hobart City Council provides an opportunity for community organisations to raise funds by offering days for them to provide a parcel wrapping service in the Hobart mall in the days leading up to Christmas. The Club has been involved over many years (raising around $600) and hopes to be offered an opportunity again in 2020.
